Lizard Man Meet Zombie Boy

July 17th, 2008 by

Bazaar Mag has a pretty detailed interview with Rick aka Zombie Boy… with all the intricate pictures you can find on sites like bmezine.com time will tell where the extremists will take modification next.

Some Choice Facts from the article…

  • 24 hours of tattoos – costing over £4,075 Canadian
  • Tattoos influence by the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (ha) and George A Romero’s Living Dead movies
  • “I thought long and hard about what I really wanted, what my passion was. And I decided I wanted to be a fucking zombie.”
  • Worry how you’ll look when your old… “No, fuck it. Everybody ages – me too. Are you worried about what you’re going to look like when you’re 60? It’s just life – tattoos turn green. I joke that once the body suit’s done they’ll be so faded I’ll have to start again at the beginning.”
  • What you wouldnt do… “Cock-splitting. I’ve seen pictures of that and it’s not for me. But I’d tattoo my cock. I’m thinking of having reptile scales and cockroaches.”

Tattoo News July 17

Pinellas deputy suspended because of his tattoos
Two articles discussing this topic… the first doesn’t show you the tattoos or say the location, but simply says that he is suspended and can’t work with the public… After seeing the second article you get a chance to see the tattoos on his neck and they also say that he recently got a DUI… a DUI for a cop… he was probably wasted, so may be they are just trying to help him get things straight before they put him back on the street… tough to come down harsh on the Cops after finding out more of the facts.

In Hawaii, Tattoos a Mark of Pride
I wonder what LA Times writer Jay Jones is insinuating with that title… hmm… An interesting quote from the article “The number (of tattoos) has increased 16% in just one year, state records show. Tourists, it seems, are returning home not only with the obligatory shell necklaces and pineapples but also with tattoos.” I know a lot of people get annoyed by “ripping off” cultures that they aren’t a member of, but it’s an interesting article about one artist’s perspective.

From Back Alley to Main Street
With tattoos popularity explosion, shops are catering to high end clientel with over priced t-shirts and expensive interior layouts. At Inka-Dinka-Do, Mark Corlis says “he has as many female clients as males. Like the doctor or dentist, customers need an appointment to get the Corliss treatment, a rendezvous like Jeff Hatch of Nantucket had last week when he spent about four hours in the chair on his fourth visit at “$100 an hour,”

NY Times Gives Thumbs up for Jews to Get Tattoos

July 17th, 2008 by

Leviticus 19: “You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.”

From the NY Times article saying that it’s an urban legend that the tattooed Jewish community can’t be barried in a Jewish Cemetery…

Rabbi Washofsky, “it’s unclear whether the passage strictly outlaws tattoos that refer to a god, or whether it generally condemns any personal adornment. Ear piercing, he added, is not controversial.”

Rabbi Alan Bright, a spokesman for the Jewish Funeral Directors of America, said that the Cemetery issue wasn’t true, but that tattoos weren’t acceptable, but that “The Torah prohibits anything negative that affects the body,” he said. “Smoking is more of a violation of Jewish law.”

The Jewish Blogs/Mags reacted to th NY Times post with some funny quotes

Jewish Hipster Site Heeb Magazine: said “we’re not big fans of the whole tattoo trend. It used to be that tattoos meant something—you’re in the service, you’re a sideshow attraction, or you’re easy. Now, tattoos don’t mean you’ve served your country, worked as a carny, or put out—all it means is that you’ve jumped on the bandwagon.”… I’m not sure who the “we” in this quote is, but it’s always interesting to read an article written by the collective.

Jewish Journal God’s Blog:“I’ve never been a fan of body art. I made this clear in Leviticus 19: You shall not make any cuts in your body for the dead nor make any tattoo marks on yourselves: I am the LORD.”… It’s good to know God’s opinion on religous topics

Tattoo Jew Movie:A movie discussing the controversy with the tattooed Jewish community.

Not sure if this tattoo is real, the line looks clearly fake, but who knows about the black box, but it’s pretty funny

July 16th, 2008 by

Hopefully all these people have seen sneak previews of the movie and thought it was awesome, but seriously imagine how these people will feel, if the movie is equal to or worse than Batman 4 (the George Clooney one)….

Tattoos = AntiSocial Disorders (via NBC)

July 15th, 2008 by

From the NBC Local 24 website here
“Of the patients studied, 15 had tattoos and 17 were diagnosed as having ASPD. Of those with tattoos, 11 of 15, or 73%, had ASPD, whereas only 6 of 21, or 29%, of those without tattoos had the same diagnosis. The presence of tattoos on forensic psychiatric inpatients should alert clinicians to a possible diagnosis of Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD), and also about the potential for histories of suicide attempt, substance abuse, and sexual abuse, according to research published today in Personality and Mental Health.”

There sample size was only 32 people and they posted this on a news site!! Ironically the sites tag is “NBC 24… the fair, accurate, honest tv station”

Olympic Tattoos are Health Risks in China

July 15th, 2008 by

Olympic Tattoo
Australian athletes who celebrate Olympic glory by getting a tattoo in Beijing risk bringing home more than a medal, infectious disease experts have warned. Hepatitis Australia notes that it has become a tradition for some athletes to get inked in the host country after the Games. But it warns the practice “seriously risks” the transmission of blood-borne diseases. “It’s only natural our athletes will want to remember their achievements by getting a tattoo of the iconic Olympic rings, but tattooing involves risks which many people don’t realise,” said the organisation’s chief executive, Helen Tyrrell…. The West Australian

The picture above was taken from here and says the following in the description “I got this tat because I made the Athens Olympics in 2004 as a US swimmer. It was my first, and most special. The writing below it is my nickname (RhiRun) in greek because it was in Greece. If I make it in Beijing in 2008, I will get my nickname in Chinese below it.”

Paris Hilton to Pure for Tattoos

July 11th, 2008 by

Paris Hilton
In celebrity tattoo news, after Good Charlotte’s Benji’s ex-girlfriend Sophie Monk was rocking a new tattoo on her head… Paris Hilton said the following… “Benji won’t let me get one. He doesn’t like tattoos on women. He thinks I look pure,” …I guess the boyfriend of the star of “1 Night IN Paris” has a slightly different definition of pure than most people.

Tattoo Infection
In two unrelated news stories there are discussions about young people getting tattoos by kitchen scratchers (in the UK it’s a 1000 pound ($1500) fine).

Forfar youth fined for giving girls home-made tattoos
Man, 18, will have to pay £1,000 after he admitted using a needle and ink on four teenagers

Despite risks, young people choosing homemade tattoos
Local Montreal Scratcher quote “It emanates from that blood brother pack that everyone has … it’s that tribe mentality, We’ll do them from sunrise to sunset, when people have had a few drinks and it’s the weekend” Pobjoy said.”

Local Vancouver Tattoo Artist Chad Woodley quote “People maybe don’t understand cross contamination, they might not be careful and they might pass something on to a bud, many people who give homemade tattoos think sterilizing the tools with alcohol will do the trick. In fact, professional tattoo artists use autoclaves, which clean equipment using a combination of heat and steam.”
